Kuchipudi Dance Offering…

On the slimy white marble floor facing the Sanctum Sanctorum, that witnessed many a talent devotional offering over the years, he danced merrily, at ease, with his feet stuck to the sharp edges of a rim brass tray, offering a unique dance programme at Bhagawan’s Lotus Feet.

The artist was Kalaimamani Mahavapeddi Murthy , renowned Kuchipudi exponent and the occasion was a dance offering, Saayi Nrithya Sangamam, at Bhagawan’s Lotus Feet by the Prasanthi Dance Troupe of students from SSSIHL, Prasanthi Nilayam campus.

Having learned the nuances of Kuchipudi, Andhra’s classical dance form from the master, the dancers from Prasanthi danced merrily for an hour, with their ‘guru’ at the centre, presenting some choicest numbers of the bygone era.

As the versatile artist danced to the fore, riveting his focus at the Sanctum Sanctorum, twenty odd student dancers made their appearance ‘shaping up’ seven thematically woven dance offerings lasting an hour.

Beginning with propitiating Lord Ganesha narrating two famous episodes from the legends, Sri Murty along with his band of students then presented a Cosmic Dance based on Shankaracharya’s composition “Bhaje Vishwanatham…” before presenting a scintillating piece of Krishna devotion “Kural Ondrum Illai..” the famous C. Rajagopalachari composition.

Dance on the rim brass tray followed, based on a Pt Ravishankar piece of music, followed by famous Annamacharya Kriti “Brahmamokkade…”. The penultimate number was on the famous Shankaracharya composition “Bhaja Govindam…” before signing off in style with a dedication to Bhagawan “Sai Tere Charanon Mein Koti Pranam…”

At the end of the presentation the versatile artist was felicitated by the Vice Chancellor. Bhajans continued before Mangala Arathi offering at 1815 hrs.

Kalaimamani Mahavapeddi Murthy had the unique blessing of presenting in the immediate Divine Presence, as part of the BICC programme, during the 70th Birthday Celebrations.

Pilgrims from Delhi & NCR would be offering a musical presentation tomorrow evening as part of Parthi Yatra 2013.
