Samoohika Upanayana Mahotsavam at Prasanthi Nilayam

Addressing a concourse of over 700 vatus (those who are being initiated into the Sacred Thread ceremony) on Feb 10, 2000, Bhagawan spoke thus: Dear Boys! Today is a sacred day. In fact, it is the foundation day of your life. Make this foundation strong and sturdy. Then the mansion of life raised on this foundation will also be strong and secure. This will give strength to the grand edifice of our nation.” The occasion was a mass Upanayanam ceremony in Prasanthi Nilayam in the immediate Divine Presence of Beloved Bhagawan. Upanayanam is a sacred ‘Hindu’ sanskara wherein a student of ‘True Truth’s is accepted by the Guru, leading him unto The Light. After 18 long years of the last Upanayanam ceremony conducted in the immediate Divine Presence of the SadhGuru HimSelf, Prasanthi Nilayam today witnessed a replica of the same festivity, conducted by the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations – India, with a pan-India representation coupled with 17 overseas nations having 700 vatus, in the immediate Divine OmniPresence of Beloved Bhagawan.

The preliminary proceedings commenced at 0600 hrs. with Pradhana Homa conducted at the centre block of Sai Kulwant Hall. The Homa comprised of Ganapathi Puja, Vedanarayana Puja, Sankalpa, Agnistapana, Ganapathi Homa, Navagraha Puja, Ayusha Puja, Sree Homa, Aavahanti Homa and Mrityunjaya Homa.

Next phase of the proceedings commenced at 08:00 hrs. with the officiating rithwiks (priests) airing step-by-step guiding instructions for the Vatus to follow. A long haul of proceedings ensued with collective chantings reverberating the spacious hall. Administering the Yajnopaveetam (sacred thread), Brahmopadesham, Gayatri Upadesham, Brahmacharya Vratam, etc, formed part of the rich contents of the long-haul of proceedings. At the Gayatri Upadesha, Bhagawan’s Divine voice reverberated in the hall, literally transforming the venue into ‘golden’. The proceedings ended with Kshama Prarthana, …chanting Kayena Vaacha… seeking to nullify any mistake during the conduct of the sacred ceremony.

Coming up next, the proceedings that commenced with the Pradhana Homa concluded with the offering of Poornahuthi.

Bhagawan’s Divine discourse on the significance of the sacred Gayatri Mantra enlightened the audience for the next 20 minutes, elucidating in detail on the subject.

Even as bhajans by the Brindavan troupe continued, simultaneously all the  Vatus were gifted with Swami’s token of love.

Mangala Arathi just before 11:00 hrs. marked the end of the grand festivity.
