Festive Onam @ 50 In Prasanthi Nilayam…

Today is holy Thiruvonam, auspicious harvest festival of Kerala. Deviating from the glare and glitter and pomp and show of the native festivity of ‘Happy Onam’, Bhagawan had set a unique ideal for the devotees from Kerala, decades ago, blessing the fraternity to celebrate ‘Blissful Onam‘ in His immediate ‘Beauty Beyond Compare’ Divine Presence. It was in the year 1969 that Bhagawan had initiated the festivity first time in Prasanthi Nilayam, and ever since it has been a dotted festivity in the Prasanthi festive calendar. Legend has it that Emperor Mahabali returns to the homeland once in a year, a special boon granted by Lord Maha Vishnu in the guise of Vamanamoorthy, before annihilating the Emperor’s last trace of ego, sending him to the neither world. Time and again Prasanthi witnessed Bhagawan lavishing praise at the Emperor, discoursing on the significance of the festivity.

Offering gratitude at Bhagawan’s Lotus Feet this morning, young vocalist from Kerala Ms. Kavya Ajit presented a soulfully vibrant Carnatic offering, serenading Bhagawan for over 45 minutes. She started off with ‘Siddhi Vinayakam…‘ and flowed on with ease, singing ‘Bho Shambho Siva Shambo Swayambho…’, ‘Janai Maa.. Sai Janani Maa...’, ‘Brova Barama…’, ‘Enna Thavam Seithinnai…Easwaramma...’, a touching number on the incomparable boon on Mother Easwaramma… to name a few. She was accompanied by Sarvasree Anantakrishnan, Trichur Harinarayanan and Vellineri Ramesh on violin, mridangam and morsing respectively.

Hundreds of devotees from the state are participating in the three-day this golden jubilee Prasanthi Onam this year. Onappookkalam, typical, colourful, artistic floral decoration on the floor, right in front of the Sanctum Sanctorum stood as a symbol of auspiciousness in the decorative morning.

Devotion is developing friendship with God practising Trikaranasuddhi, unity in thought, word and deed exhorted Bhagawan in His Divine discourse, played on the public address system in the function held in the evening. Enlisting the nine-modes of devotion, Bhagawan hailed Emperor Mahabali for his all out surrender that turns out to be the finest instance for Atma Nivedanam, Self Surrender.

Sri TV Hariharan from the first batch of  Sri Sathya Sai University (SSSIHL now) along with Sri Ramesh Sadashiva, Bhajan coordinator and Carnatic vocalist from Kerala, then presented a soulful devotional evening next singing paeans at Bhagawan’ Lotus Feet. Ramesh Sadadhiva’s own composition in Malayalam on the greater good fortune of celebrating ‘Onam With Swami’, ‘Swamiyodoppame Onam…’  turned out to be the pick, heartening hearts and souls many in the august assembly.
