Face The Face In The Mirror…

To rectify the world and put it on the proper path, we have to first rectify our conduct and ourselves.

‘When transformation is gained, you will find that you have travelled only from yourself to yourself, with God all the while in you, around you, with you and beside you.’ – Baba

The magnanimous selfless acts of Beloved Bhagawan are too numerous and ceaseless to mention. Moreover where does one begin to write about the tremendous transformations that He has brought about within individuals through His direct one to one connection with each one…through His teachings…through silence and yes, by way of setting an example by living His message through, proving His maxim that the best way to set an example is to be an example.

Bhagawan encourages us to face ourselves in the mirror through this statement – If there is righteousness in the heart, there will be beauty in the character, if there is beauty in the character, there will be harmony in the home, when there is harmony in the home, there will be order in the nation, when there is order in the nation, there will be peace in the world.

In this connection, one is tempted to quote the poem of Prof. V.K. Gokak, Jnanpith winner, noted educationist and formerly Vice Chancellor of SSSIHL, in which he envisions Bhagawan as ‘a lawn of blue light’.

Baba is a lawn of blue light

With a May flower on top of His hair

And a golden lily on His cranium.

He is the healer of a world in pain,

The blue-throated God

That drinks the poison of its suffering

To make it happy and whole.

Beloved Bhagawan says, “You have it in your power to make your days on Earth a path of flowers, instead of a path of thorns.”

When  this ‘Lawn of Blue Light’ reiterates, “You must be a Lotus, unfolding its petals when the Sun rises in the sky, unaffected by the slush where it is born or even the water which sustains it!”…and when He is there by our side to guide us through this process of self transformation with an assurance, Why Fear when I am Near’, do we need to hesitate anymore…?

Let the mirror that we look into be the Cosmic Mirror that is Bhagawan and then boldly face the truth it reflects.

“It’s all about change, transforming, adapting and emerging. Overcoming and becoming.

Let us begin with the face in the mirror.

How much longer can we keep pulling wool over our own eyes?

We may look the other way but our faults will not drop away. The cracks need to be sealed through introspection and reflection.

Let the mask drop off, like layers of onion peels…

Let us become a mirror image of Him…

Following is a quote from one of the learned Himalayan Masters, reflecting on the need of the hour, invidual transformation.

“You wish to win your battles. If you really want to win, your first victory must be over yourself. The conquest of oneself is the only true conquest.

Can you calm down when you are agitated? Can you slow your breath when you are excited and are breathing fast? Can you silence your chattering mind for a moment so that you can listen to the intuitive messages that are waiting to break through the curtain of mental noise? If you can answer yes to these questions, you have already won your battles.”

Have you ever watched the city gutters and pipes being cleaned and the sewage filth that spills out… perhaps akin to doing sanitation seva…?

Similar is the ‘kachra’, that spews forth from within, when one begins to do Mental Housekeeping… dust, filth and dirt; blocks, fears, traumas and fixations accumulated in this and through other lifetimes.

Let us face the person in the mirror.

For that is where change should begin.

The world does not need a change, at least not as urgently as the person in the mirror. Once the person in the mirror transforms, the change is reflected in the family, society, nation and the world at large. The mirror just reflects. It has no partiality or prejudice.

The Universe as a whole benefits from an individual transformation.

A simple question.  An earnest quest -

‘Should we waste a life that by the sheer presence of the Lord has been blessed…?’

“Why fear when I am near?”

When the Master Himself is waiting to hold our hand and guide us to a golden us and a golden age, should we resist, pull back and be left behind?

Although life may appear to be a pendulum swing, let us cling to the Lotus Feet of Beloved Bhagawan, surging forward, basking in the joy of His presence, evolving, emerging and becoming befitting instruments that – Love All, Serve All; Help Ever, Hurt Never…even as we chant Samasta Lokah Sukhino Bhavantu.
