Nithyasree Mahadevan’s Carnatic Offering…

Carnatic vocalist of rich legacy Dr Nithyasree Mahadevan and her team of fellow musicians featured the ‘Birthday Eve’ session of the ongoing 96th Birthday Celebrations of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai this evening in Prasanthi Nilayam.

Profusely thanking Bhagawan for the blessed opportunity, wishing Him ‘Happy Birthday’, Nithyashree began with a Thyagaraja composition, Endaro Mahanubhavulu…, and flowed on with Anandamritakarshini Amritavarshini…. by Muthuswami Dikshitar, Kanukontini Sri Ramuni… of Thyagaraja, Muthozhil Puriyum Mummoorthy Neeve… a song dedicated to the Trinity Of Sai, Tamburi Meetidava…of Purandaradasa, Bomma Bomma Thakha Thaiya Thaiya…on Lord Ganesha, Bho Sambho Siva Shambho Swayambho…, Nadithozhubavaryennalaipokkum Nathane Sai Nathane…, a Tamil number dedicated to Bhagawan, Parthivasinam Vishwavanditam… a number in line with the famed Sabarimala hymn ‘Hariharatmajam…’ on Lord Ayyappa, dedicated to Parthi Sai.

This evening, she was accompanied by Sarvasree Parur M.A. Krishnaswami, V Sai Raghavan and H. Sivaramakrishnan on Violin, Mridangam and Ghatam, respectively, followed by Smt Sai Lakshmi on Tanpura. Interspersing, Sai Raghavan, an alumnus of Bhagawan’s music college at Prasanthi Nilayam, on mridangam got into an instrumental Jugalbandhi with Sivaramakrishnan on Ghatam, playing finger magic with precision.

Nithyashree had the unique blessing to be in Bhagawan’s Presence and to serenade Him in 2005. She is the granddaughter of the legendary Carnatic vocalist DK Pattammal (paternal) and Mridangam maestro Palghat Mani Iyer (maternal).

The artiste along with her accompanists was felicitated next. Bhajans continued and the session concluded with Mangala Arathi.
