Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust offers to extend the Anantapur Water Project

The Trustees of the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust sought a meeting with the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy, and he agreed to see them on the 31st March 2012. A team of Trustees of the Central Trust comprising of Sri S.V.Giri, Sri V. Srinivasan, Sri T.K.K. Bhagawat, Sri S.S. Naganand and Sri R.J. Rathnakar, called on the Chief Minister at 5 pm on Saturday, 31st March 2012. They were accompanied by Sri R. Kondal Rao, Retired Engineer in Chief and Technical Advisor of the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh and Sri A. Ramakrishna, former President of L&T’s Construction Division.

During the meeting the Trustees offered to extend the Anantapur Water Project, which was originally funded by the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust under Baba’s direct guidance, to include an additional 118 habitations.The proposed extension would cover all habitations in the old Sathya Sai Taluk covering the three Mandals of Bukkapatnam, Kothacheruvu and Puttapparthi. This would enable provision of clean drinking water to an additional 1 lakh people residing in these villages. The project is estimated to cost Rs. 75 to 80 crore, which will be funded completely by the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust. The Trustees sought the approval of the Government so that they could commence a detailed investigation preliminary to execution.
It may be recalled that the Anantapur Water Project undertaken by Baba and funded by the Trust in 1994 covered 731 villages of the Anantapur District. This was followed by other projects at Medak and Mahbubnagar (November 2000), Chennai (April 2002) and East and West Godavari (May 2006). All these were funded by the Sathya Sai Central Trust at a total cost in excess of Rs. 650 crores and then handed over to the respective Sate Governments for subsequent running and maintenance.

The Chief Minister listened to the proposals and expressed the Government’s appreciation at the initiative taken by the Central Trust and promised to extend all support.
