Tamil New Year celebrated…

Today marks the beginning of  Tamil New Year. Celebrating the occasion, Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations – Tamil Nadu presented a Carnatic Musical offering this evening here in Prasanthi Nilayam. Earlier, the music programme was preceded by a speech by Sri TE Aditya, an alumnus of Sri Sathya Sai Institute Of Higher Learning.

The session commenced at 1720 hrs. with a ‘Seva’ oriented speech – The Spirit Of Seva – by Sri TE Aditya. Drawing analogies and anecdotes from Bhagawan’s life and teachings, speaking on the greater importance of Seva, clarifying how close Seva is to Bhagawan, the speaker listed out seven ‘vital’ inner feelings that supplements the same, namely, feeling of… golessness…Humility…Unconditional Service…Love…Forgiveness…Equipoise Mind…Forgiveness…and feeling of Sacrifice.

When you go down to help the ‘sangam’, (downtrodden) that is when you reach the Lingam (God), said the speaker quoting Bhagawan, attempting to glorify Seva or Service. Jumbling up the term SEVA, the speaker arrived at the conclusion that SEVA alone will SAVE us from this world.

In conclusion, the speaker said in a convincing tone, His Mission will continue with or without us…it is for us to grab it. Swami does not want our ability, wants only availability.

A Carnatic music session by the Chinmaya Sisters from Chennai followed next. Regaling the audience on the New Year evening, the sisters, Uma and Radhika sang a variety of Carnatic numbers, popular being Manasa Sancharare…, Krishna Nee Begane…, Darshan Deejo Hey Bhagawan…, Sab Ka Malik Ek Hey Bhagawan…

The sisters were accompanied by Kumbakonam Sri MR Gopinath on Violin, Nellai Sri A Balaji on Mridangam and Matippakkam Sri A Murali on Ghatam.

Bhajans continued and ended with Mangala Arathi at 1900 hrs.

Earlier in the morning, the Sundaram Bhajan troupe offered an hour-long bhajan from 0830 hrs. till 0930 hrs., after regular Vedam chanting, today by the Tamil Nadu group.
